Frequently Asked Questions
What cement should I use to cement gutta-percha into the canal?
Use any cement that does not contain eugenol. Eugenol will prevent the set
of composite resins. We recommend the use of EZ-Fill® epoxy root canal
cement.  Radiopaque, EZ-Fill cement is compatible with all bonding agents
and composites.  Subsequent composite techniques may be performed
immediately.

How many teeth do you need to perform an overdenture case?
You need at least one tooth.  (For additional information, see New EZ-Change Overdenture Attachment: Maximum Retention with Minimum Stress.)

I sometimes find that there are air bubbles and voids in the core.  What can I do to prevent this?
Use a matrix and a syringe to avoid this situation and apply the core material under pressure.

Which metal is better, stainless steel or titanium alloy?
Stainless steel is a more resilient metal, but titanium alloy is stronger.  However, the trade-off for the stronger metal is that titanium is more brittle and is prone to breakage.  Most dentists use stainless steel posts.  (For additional information , see Thoughts on Ni-Ti Instrumentation.)

What is the purpose of a post?
A post is used to retain the core material,  which provides support for the restoration of an endodontically treated tooth.

What is the difference between a post and a pin?
Pins are used to support core build-up materials and are placed in the coronal dentin,  not in the root canal.

How much gutta-percha should be removed before post placement?
Leave at least 5 mm apically to prevent complications and to deliver a tight endodontic seal.

How do I retreat without removing the post?
You cannot.  You must remove the post to retreat the canal in the case of an infection.  (For additional information, see Endodontic Retreatment: Removing Posts.)
